Designing and Delivering a Sustainable Future
Fehily Timoney and Company’s philosophy is to combine engineering and scientific skills in a unified approach to achieve the right environmental solution for our clients, to protect people, minimise harm to the environment and contribute towards sustainable design and construction of the engineered environment.
FT seeks to implement our sustainability objectives at a practical level and on a daily basis through good work practices and increased awareness and training among staff.
Sustainable Development Solutions
We are committed to best practice in sustainable design and construction, through the provision of effective and practical advice and design options to our clients. This will promote development changes towards more environmentally friendly and sustainable options. The adoption of sustainability is a core business concept and is key to minimising the environmental impact of both our own and our client’s activities.
With respect to works carried out for our clients, our staff examine all environmental considerations associated with a project and recommend the use of sustainable practices and materials in order to prevent or minimise their environmental impact while still meeting the required functionality.
Sustainability is a key component when determining the means by which buildings, facilities, structures, highways and infrastructure are designed and constructed. Our team of engineers, scientists and planners highlight this when interacting with clients.
FT’s environmental scientists and ecologists routinely evaluate the impact of development projects on the human and natural environment and develop environmental mitigation and enhancement measures for integration into engineered and planning designs to prevent potential negative impacts and maximise positive impacts and environmental co-benefits of projects.
Sustainable Engineering Practices
The sustainability of any and all activities is a major consideration for our engineers, scientists and planners when undertaking environmental impact assessments, feasibility reports and technical/risk assessments for clients in the various areas of our work. When determining the impact of an activity or development, our engineers, scientists and planners take cognisance of the means by which its environmental impact is lessened and how it interacts with its local surroundings, both presently and in the future. This will ensure that the environment is protected and enhanced for future generations.
Our mission statement, which is
to combine engineering and scientific skills in a unified approach to achieve the right environmental balance for our clients in the sustainable design and construction of the engineered environment and in doing so to foster the excellence and growth of our employees and business
As a result, through the years, we have retained a balance of engineering and science specialists, across a wide range of skillsets, to enable us to provide the optimum advice to our clients on managing and minimising their environmental impact. We are committed to best practice in sustainable design and construction, through the provision of effective and practical advice and design options to our clients. This will promote development changes towards more environmentally friendly and sustainable options.
Sustainability Management
The FT sustainability policy is reviewed annually, and a performance report is presented at the annual company staff day. Areas for improved performance are highlighted to all staff members.
FT has a sustainability plan that addresses the steps taken to embed this in the everyday delivery of service. FT has established and implemented an environmental management system certified to ISO 14001 which aims to reduce the environmental impacts of the company’s activities and develops a culture of continuous improvement in environmental and sustainability performance. Our environmental management system aims to minimise the use of resources and in our in-house operations. In addition, FT’s Climate Action Committee was established to address and contribute to efforts aimed at mitigating and adapting to climate change, as well as promoting environmental sustainability practices aligned with ISO 14001. This management system is independently certified and is also externally audited. FT is also registered under the Achilles Verification Scheme that assesses our sustainability, energy and carbon practices.
