Official Launch of the Limerick Greenway
Overview
Today marks the official launch of the Limerick Greenway as a visitor experience and recreational amenity, adding to Ireland’s network of safe infrastructure to the public.
The Limerick Greenway is a 40km route with a 3-metre wide asphalt surface that runs from Rathkeale to Abbeyfeale along the route of the old Limerick to Tralee rail line. The Greenway design works were started in September 2019 and opened to the public in July 2021.
Limerick City and County Council appointed FT to prepare the necessary design, tender and construction documentation and to provide site supervision, contract administration and PSDP services for the Limerick Greenway. As Employers Representative, FT oversaw the appointment of the multimillion euro construction contract to Roadbridge to complete Phase 1 of the Improvement Works.
The Limerick Greenway is one of several walking and cycling paths FT has worked on. FT is currently working on two exciting projects, the Design of the Phase 1 &2 Grand Canal Greenway for Kildare County Council and Route Selection and Planning for Wexford Town to Rosslare Strand Greenway for Wexford County Council.
