John Sisk and Sons Holdings Ltd (Sisk) have been commissioned by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) to develop proposals for the improvement of the existing Dunkettle Interchange.

FT Responsibilities

FT as lead consultant on this project were responsible for the design of all structures and associated geotechnical works, all environmental design and monitoring, ecological studies, landscaping design, utilities design and stakeholder management.

The FT in house Ecology team scoped and carried out all pre-construction ecological surveys for the project and carried out ecological monitoring at construction and post construction stage. Pre-construction surveys undertaken for the project included, ornithology surveys, botanical and mammal surveys and intertidal surveys. The project required the translocation of rare plant species which were undertaken under the guidance of the Ecology team. FT also carried out construction and post construction monitoring.

Ecological Clerk of Works (EcOW) role managing planning conditions along with EIA and NIS commitments for the reconfiguration of the Dunkettle Interchange to a free flow interchange including:

  • Rare Plant survey and translocations
  • Invasive species surveys and design of Invasive Species Management Plan
  • Mammal and bat surveys
  • Derogation licences for badger and otter
  • Ornithological surveys
  • Lamprey and water beetle surveys
  • Lepidoptera (Including moths) surveys
  • Habitat creation (new saltmarsh, intertidal areas, woodland and native grasslands) and consultation with statutory bodies (IFI and NPWS)
